Too many pop up advertisements asking the user to subscribe to newsletters or accept notifications. Google says enough: starting from version 80 of the Chrome browser, which will be released starting February 4, websites that flood the user with notifications will have to radically rethink their graphical interface.
As already done by Mozilla on Firefox, in fact, Google is also about to introduce a blocking pop-up notifications from sites. Today, a lot of websites show, as soon as the user opens a page, a large pop up that comes down from the Chrome address bar and hides a large part of a page. Many times, this pop up also blocks access to the website, preventing users from reading any content until they click on the notification or a few seconds pass. Sometimes, then, i pop up they are even used to carry various types of viruses. This is all about to end.
How Chrome's pop-up blocker works
Starting with version 80 Chrome (both desktop and mobile versions) will automatically block pop-ups sent from websites. For each block, a notification will be displayed on the right side of the address bar, just before the star to add the site to your favorites, and an icon to bell shape cut. By clicking on this bell the user can choose to enable pop-ups. There will be three modes of action for this new feature: manual, automatic for users who accept notifications from time to time and automatic for sites deemed most annoying.
The "annoyance" of a site will be calculated based on how many times on average users reject and close the pop-ups sent and will be communicated within the Chrome User Experience Report. optimization for search engines (SEO) there is already the fear that a possible "annoying index" of a site could become a penalizing parameter from an SEO perspective.
