Apple 2022 events: which calendar?

Apple 2022 events: which calendar?

Summary

In 2021, despite some ups and downs, Apple has not changed its habits by launching a series of new products between April and November.

Indeed, the firm organized four Keynotes, all broadcast in streaming:

  • Spring Keynote - April 20
  • WWDC - June 7
  • September Keynote - September 14
  • October Keynote - October 18

What about 2022? Will Apple keep the same rate of release? We try to answer these questions by giving you some details.

When are the next Apple events taking place?

Throughout the year, we usually enjoy four Apple events during which the company unveils its latest products. Sometimes, it happens that certain Keynotes do not take place, like the one in spring or even in October, like in 2019. In 2022, we expect the program to be as follows:

  • March/April (often includes iPads)
  • June (WWDC)
  • September (iPhone and Apple Watch)
  • October (iPad and Mac)

This year, as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman rightly predicted, Apple is hosting a Keynot, the Peek Performance, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, much earlier than the 2021 Spring Loaded conference.

What time do Apple events start?

Apple events usually start at 10 a.m. in California, or 19 p.m. in Spain.

If you live in Canada, then connect at 10 a.m. (PDT/PT), 11 a.m. (MDT/MT), 12 p.m. (CDT/CT), 13 p.m. (EDT/ET) or 14 p.m. (ADT/AT).

Apple presentations last between one and two hours, and are usually broadcast from Apple Park in California.

Spring 2022 Apple Keynote

The 2022 Keynote will take place on March 8, which is much earlier than most previous editions but has always taken place in the spring.

  • 2021: April 20
  • 2020: No event (but iPhone SE launch April 15)
  • 2019: March 25
  • 2018: March 27
  • 2017: No event
  • 2016: March 21
  • 2015: March 9

On the occasion of this Keynote of March 8, several products should be unveiled, here is our prognosis:

  • iPhone SE 3
  • New iPad Air
  • New 27-inch iMac with M1 Pro or M1 Max chip
  • Mac mini

The third generation of the iPhone SE will likely keep the same design as the current model, based on the iPhone 8. It would welcome several internal changes, including a faster A15 processor, a better camera and 5G compatibility.

We expect the Intel version of the Mac mini to be replaced by a model powered by the M1 Pro or M1 Max chip.

Also, after the release of new AirPods in October 2021, the next Pro would be planned for 2022, so why not in March or April?

WWDC 2022

  • Monday, June 6 (forecast)

With the exception of 2020, WWDC has almost always been held in the first week of June:

  • 2021: June 7
  • 2020: June 22
  • 2019: June 3
  • 2018: June 4
  • 2017: June 5
  • 2016: June 13
  • 2015: June 8

If it still seems far away, we are already hearing about what could be presented there:

  • Macbook Air M2
  • MacBook Pro 13 inches

As for its Mac Pro, Apple will no doubt have its work cut out to upgrade it. It must be customizable and scalable if it is to meet the requirements of the market for which it is intended.

WWDC is also the time to spotlight upcoming versions of Apple's operating systems, like macOS 13 and iOS 16.

Keynote September 2022

  • Tuesday September 13 or Wednesday September 14, 2022 (forecast)

Who knows what fall 2022 might bring, but Apple has launched a new iPhone in September of virtually every year for the past decade. Therefore, a new iPhone's place on the scene seems assured.

Based on past launches (see list below), then updates and new features will be announced on Tuesday September 13th or Wednesday September 14th.

  • 2021: Tuesday September 14
  • 2020: Tuesday, September 15 (not an iPhone event)
  • 2019: Tuesday September 10
  • 2018: Wednesday, September 12
  • 2017: Tuesday September 12
  • 2016: Wednesday, September 7
  • 2015: Wednesday, September 9
  • 2014: Tuesday September 9
  • 2013: Tuesday September 10
  • 2012: Wednesday, September 12

As for what will be launched, we say instead, we are looking at the iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch Series 8.

Keynote October 2022

  • Tuesday, October 12, 2022 (forecast)

October is usually the month when Apple announces new Macs and iPads. In the past, conferences have (or have not) taken place on the following dates:

  • 2021: Monday, October 18
  • 2020: Tuesday, October 13
  • 2019: no event
  • 2018: Tuesday, October 30
  • 2017: no event
  • 2016: Thursday, October 27
  • 2015: no event
  • 2014: Thursday, October 16
  • 2013: Tuesday, October 22
  • 2012: Tuesday, October 23
  • 2011: Tuesday, October 4

We therefore anticipate an event on Tuesday 12 or Wednesday 13 October.

November 2022 will mark exactly two years since the arrival of the first M1 Mac, and Apple has said it will complete the transition from Intel's Macs to its own silicon in two years. We expect Apple to have M-series chips in all of its Macs by fall. The iPad Pro may also receive an M2 chip.

How do I watch Apple events live?

You will be able to follow the announcements live, on any device via Apple's official website, as well as via the Apple TV application on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac, but also through its YouTube channel.
