What is an eBook?
By definition a eBook (or ebook) is a book that is converted into a digital format to be read on any digital device such as mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, e-readers and computers. Another key feature of an eBook is that the text cannot be editable: an eBook must always be converted into a format that guarantees just that. The most popular formats for an eBook are: TXT, EPUB, MOBI, AZW, PDF.
EPUB (.epub): EPUB is an electronic publication and is the most widely supported format and can be read on a wide variety of devices, including computers, smartphones, tablets and most eReaders (except Kindle). EPUB files are redrawable, which makes them true eBooks and easier to read on small devices.
AZW (.azw): AZW files were developed by Amazon for his Kindle eReaders. These files can store complex content such as bookmarks, annotations and highlights. But the use of AZW files is limited to Kindles or devices with Kindle apps. Also, they are only accessible from Amazon's online library.
MOBI: A MOBI file is designed specifically for mobile devices or eReaders. The format is very light and supports bookmarks, notes, corrections and JavaScript. The content in the file may be DRM protected to prevent illegal copying and viewing. This format was also “purchased” by Amazon for their devices and ebooks.
PDF: Also known as a portable document format, it's not technically a true eBook by our definition, but it's the format most people are familiar with. Created by Adobe, PDFs are known for their ease of use and ability to contain custom layouts. Since they keep their format and are not re-drawable, they can be difficult to read on a small screen. Despite this, they are still one of the most commonly used eBook formats, particularly by marketers.
How to Convert PDF to Ebook?
