Test : MacPaw CleanMyPC

MacPaw, as its name suggests, focuses on software for Apple devices. However, you might not know that it also offers a service for Windows called CleanMyPC which we tested.

Price

CleanMyPC is available for free download, but to take advantage of a number of different licenses you will have to choose the paid version.

You can purchase one on a one-time basis (for one PC) for €39,95, as part of an annual subscription, which consists of regular major updates and technical support.

If you choose the option of two licenses or the Family pack (5 computers), it will cost you respectively €59,95 or €89,95.

You can also pay a one-time fee to own CleanMyPC permanently, priced at €89,95, €135,95, and €199,95 for one, two, and five license packs.

Usage and performance

CleanMyPC is easy to install, it takes up less than 50 MB, and you can use it for free, although this version has its limitations. For you, we have tested the paid version.

Basically, this software helps you fix errors, clean up and maintain your Windows operating system, with the aim of speeding up your PC performance. For this, 8 tools are available to you:

  • Cleaning My PC
  • Registry maintenance
  • Multiple Uninstaller
  • Hibernation
  • Extensions
  • Automatic execution
  • Privacy Policy
  • Destructive

The main functionality is Registry cleaning, to perform an analysis of the two disks of our device, indicating that 1,8 GB could be deleted.

The task only takes some time, however if you haven't chosen the paid version, then you will run into the inevitable limitation of the free subscription which can only remove 500MB.

Finally, CleanMyPC managed to delete 1,68 GB of unnecessary folders, some of which were even "inaccessible" to us as users. For comparison, the CCleaner Professional utility manages 3,09 GB in total.

It's good to see a full breakdown of reported files in different categories, so you can decide which ones to remove or leave out.

The software has several other tools, including Hibernation, which saves 6,34 GB, but disables your system's hibernation file. Therefore, we advise you to use this function only in an emergency.

You will also be able to take advantage of features such as Multi Uninstaller, Extensions and Autorun, which are in fact shortcuts to elements that you will find in your Windows 10 settings, but in a more fluid and ergonomic way.

We regret one thing, the lack of information such as highlighting applications that have not been used for a long time, among others. However, it's easy enough to find out on Windows, where you can even sort your apps by size.

The CleanMyPC software lets you uninstall multiple apps at once and claims to get rid of files that would usually be forgotten, even those downloaded before MacPaw was added.

Autorun is arguably the best way to gain speed, as it shows which apps load when you start Windows and often do so without your knowledge.

The remaining sections highlight your privacy settings for web browsers and securely deleting files or folders without moving them to the trash.

CleanMyPC even scans all your browsers to collect traces of your online activity and put them in one place.

Conclusion

Offered at a lower price than some of its competitors, MacPaw CleanMyPC is quick and easy to use, especially thanks to its simplified and intuitive interface. Also, you'll appreciate its small size, especially if you're limited by your PC's storage space.

Although it works very well, the software has encountered some problems such as the inability to access certain files and the lack of some other essential features, such as telephone support...
